2023/2024 CALENDAR OF PROGRAMS
All meetings are held on Thursdays unless otherwise noted at the Milford Senior Center, 1050 Atlantic Street in downtown Milford adjacent to the Milford Civic Center. Meetings start at 6:30 pm with a Social Time. The business meeting and program starts at 7 pm. Meetings are open to members and non-members.
September 14, 2023 Allen Chartier – Hummingbirds – In 2000, Mr. Chartier started the Great Lakes
Hummernet research project which among other things bands hummingbirds in our region. He will
present information on his humming bird project and other interesting bird related projects his has
contributed to and worked on including co-authoring books and research projects with National
Geographic.
October 12, 2023 Emily Duthinh is the President of Blue Heron Headwaters Conservancy and also
an adjunct professor at Wayne State University. Emily will discuss establishing, caring for and the
importance of water gardens.
November 9, 2023 Mark Brooks is an ISA Cerfied Arborist who owns and operates SavaTree. Mark
will discuss tree pruning, trimming, removal, disease control, shrub and hedge trimming along with Tick
control and deer repellents.
March 14, 2024 Gail Montgomery is a Master Garden at Willow Nursery. Gail will provide
information on both practical gardening, repurposing and other interesting tidbits to help in our
gardening and decorating activities.
April 11, 2024 Emily Duthinh will present information on invasive species in our area and
efforts to manage/control their spread including invasive found in our gardens.
May 9, 2024 Bevin Cohen is a food and garden author, herbalist and owner of Small House
Farm in Sanford, Michigan where they grow seed crops, herbs and flowers. He is the founder of the
Michigan seed library which is a community seed sharing initiative.
July 11, 2024 Erin Hamilton is a farmer and agricultural educator from Howell, Michigan. She
and her husband founded the Mushroom Conservancy Erin’s passion is regenerative agriculture and
farmland.
